My neighbour now 87 had to flee from Gadansk during the second world war. When she tried to find her large family a few years later she could not only not find anyone but she couldn’t even find out what had happened to them. She said she learned then what it is to be truly alone and as she stood cold, hungry, totally alone and owning jus the clothes she stood up in, more than once she almost took the short cut to heaven. But she said that she still had a healthy body and she still had God in her heart so she kept going. She made a new life in this country and has made it her mission to look after other people and bring them together. Even though she is now almost blind she still hosts and does all the food for street parties in the summer for our whole neighbourhood and house parties in the winter for our own street.

This started as a vision she had to bring people together because she said that it’s all very well saying hello but one day we may need to help each other. How can we know how ot help if we don’t even know each other? So now all of our street know each other fairly well and other people comment on how close we are. We freely admit that it is Cary who has brought us together and that we will continue to build on what she has started. If only every street had people like her in them, but maybe they do. If only all the Christians would decide to open up our homes and lives to welcome other people in just as you have done. What a witness that would be and wouldn’t Jesus just love to be at the heart of it all?

So well done Mark, I know you will make a difference and people will want to become part of it. And so another great story of love begins!
